Reviewing Our Subway

Los Angeles seems to get an unusually large number of reporters from other cities who show up and write a "wow, LA isn't so bad" story for their hometown paper. Most recently, Howard Shapiro from the Philadelphia Inquirer visited and rode around our subways. Pershing Square -"hands down the ugliest city square I've seen," gets a thumbs-down, but the Red Line's vibrant scene impresses Howard: "That night, a Friday, I saw what happens when a neighborhood transforms: A constant array of passengers - many of them young and carefully styled and apparently heading in from all over the Metro system - gave the Red Line a dinnertime rush hour." Thank you hip young riders for doing your part.
