If last week was marked by tons of downtown news, this week seems to be when all of the proud Venetians crawl out of the woodwork to let us know about neighborhood news that doesn't involve Pinkberry. A reader writes in to let us know Venice is getting its "famous" electric sign back. Or it will be, after it is lit at a ceremony by Mayor Villaraigosa, Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, and Kendrik Kinney, grandson of Abbot Kinney. To celebrate the restored sign at Windward Ave and Venice Beach, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Venice Chamber of Commerce, the city is putting on a rager: Venice Fest on June 24th. The press release lets us know the event will feature music by local bands and "50 booths of everything from arts and crafts to eco friendly businesses, electric cars and community organizations. In addition, there will be a children’s area which will include a big bounce, a petting zoo and face painting." We're sorry, but how exactly is that different from any other Sunday on the boardwalk?
