Don't Mind the Algae

Natural swimming pools (think: pond in your backyard) may be popular in Europe, but are just catching on in chlorine-loving, bacteria-phobic America. The upside of going natural: Nice foliage, pretty ducks will visit, and better for the environment. Downside: Can be expensive ($50,000), pretty ducks will take over your pool, and lots of algae.

The best part of the article is when the Times reporter calls up the chairwoman of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals to see what she thinks of the hippie natural pool trend. Never heard of them! says the chairwoman. Never gonna work! she adds. Way to stick to your guns, lady.
