Rising Rents in Larchmont

Since we love blowing our Curbed paycheck at Larchmont Beauty, we are keenly interested in today's LA Times' piece about how a rent dispute at La Luna Ristorante has locals worried that Larchmont will turn into a chain-heavy commercial strip like the Grove or Third Street Promenade. The recent sale of three commercial buildings is stirring rumors of forthcoming $10 a square foot rents and likely forcing out longtimers like Larchmont Hardware. On the other side, folks say: Get with the times! Tom Cairns, an area resident and lawyer for La Luna's landlord: "I don't know why people are surprised when commercial property doubles while residential property triples." City Councilman Tom LaBonge is trying to sort through the whole mess and is holding talks tomorrow night with residents.
