Death Knell for Carpool Lanes in OC

Orange County Transportation Authority board members are considering a proposal to render carpool lanes on all freeways in the County essentially useless. Under the proposal, which they are testing right now on stretches of the 22 Freeway, drivers will be able to enter and exit the carpool late at any point, as opposed to the limited exit/access points that exist now. That seems reasonable. The other half of the proposal opens up carpool lanes to solo drivers during non-peak hours. This seems unreasonable. Um, maybe the board members haven’t driven around Southern California lately, but the last time we checked, the freeways were congested all day long. We’re glad we won’t be carpooling in OC any time soon.
