Downtown can't get its beauty sleep and apparently it's all the fault of Hollywood. Downtown News tells the grim tale of businesses losing customers while residents endure flood lights, simulated gun shots, and 3 a.m. wrap parties (hmm, sounds fun, invite us, please). "The final straw came March 18, when a helicopter used for a Verizon commercial hovered above the Historic Core between 11 p.m. and midnight." It turns out downtown is just so pretty (pre its blood-shot eyes, mussed up hair and crabby mood): in 2006, 2,235 filming permits were issued in downtown, notes the paper.
