Hello readers. Don't forget that we're in the throes of the Curbed LA Ugliest Building Contest. We need you to email us at la@curbed.com with your nomination. In addition to a brief description of why you're nominating the building, your submission should include one of the following: 1. a picture. 2. a web link. 3. or Local Live Link.
Entries must be received by March 31, 2007. A panel of judges will select the winner and runner-ups. The winner, announced at the end of the month, will receive a free dinner for four at Shakey's Pizza AND prominent mention on Curbed LA.
Our latest submission comes from a reader who may like books, but sure hates the building they're in.
"Venice Public Library.
Ugly outside: pink stucco, green tile. This is not Miami, much less an ugly part of Miami.
Terrible urban plan: it faces a parking lot and a park. Venice is a walking, biking community. The building turns its back on those who arrive by bike or car.
Terrible program use: the building is used as a homeless shelter. I have nothing against homeless shelters. But I do think that the homeless should not be bathing in the public restrooms of the Venice library. Don't think that's ugly... go check a book out at 10:00am any day of the week and you should be convinced."
