Monday Morning Thinkage

Today's Thinkage comes from a reader concerned about all those pollutey industrial uses taking up prime loft living space in Downtown LA. Apparently, there is a push to preserve the industrial land for industrial uses by the Planners in City Hall.

Hello Curbed, So, what's up with the planning commission's crusade to preserve 80% of downtown's industrial district for industrial use? Maybe I am missing something, but it seems out-of-this-world-idiotic to save run-down industrial operations on some of the city's most valuable land. What are they thinking? And why is no one stopping them?

Coincidentally, we saw part of a speech by local economist Jack Kyser on Channel 35 last night where he touched on this very subject. However, we appreciate the input of our amateur economists in the comments to answer this question.
