The Battle of Burbank has come to a shocking close with the horse people having successfully stomped out Whole Foods' plans to set up shop in their neighborhood. Via the Burbank Leader:
The months-long struggle over a proposal to construct a Whole Foods Market in the Rancho District came to a screeching halt on Tuesday when the City Council voted 3-2 to deny the project due to projected adverse impacts on the largely equestrian neighborhood. The Battle came down to traffic. The Council determined the proposed Whole Foods would put the horses and the "Rancho" lifestyle in mortal danger, despite WF's revised plans that would provide a smaller store. The Council vowed to protect the low-density, low traffic, low tolerance Rancho lifestyle despite changing times, demographics and all common sense. Nice job Burbank.
