Hasselhoff Wouldn't Approve

Some Laguna Beach residents aren’t digging the new lifeguard towers. The city is replacing the old chairs with "towers" that stand upright and protect life guards from the sun.

"Everyone's response was, 'Is that a trashcan or an outhouse?' " says former lifeguard and resident Sandra Siani, who has started a petition against the towers. Among other things, she argues the price tag for each tower ($25,000) is too much. (Yeah, that's an expensive outhouse). Meanwhile, an interesting bit about why the towers are covered: some fomer lifeguards have sued the city after being diagnosed with skin cancer.
