Z-Boys Back in the News

Start rolling the cameras again cuz the documentary ain't over. Developer Lewis Herrmann wants to erect a 14-unit mixed-use rental/retail project on the former site of the Zephyr shop, the legendary Santa Monica spot where the Z-boys (and one girl) used to hang. Currently, Horizons West Surf Shop is on the site, but in the 1970s, Jeff Ho's store Jeff Ho Surfboards & Zephyr Productions was a popular hangout for surfers and skateboarders. The group ultimately gained national attention in 2001's "Dogtown and Z-Boys" documentary.

TONIGHT the Santa Monica Landmarks Commission is scheduled to talk about nominating the property as a landmark. Send reports!
