Paying More To Park

Checking in with parking lot prices around the region, the LA Times reports that downtown monthly spaces run $300 a month for unreserved spaces and up to $500 for a personalized slot. Hollywood club goers can easily drop $60 a night on parking, while the cost of office parking is also on the rise (two hours of mid-day concrete fun in Century City costs nearly $30). Options like adding large parking complexes help, but even Santa Monica is finding itself running out of space: 1,700 more parking spaces will be added over the next decade, according to the paper. Raking it in are lot owners: "Now is a good time to be a parking operator," says Bill Francis of Walker Parking Consultants, who estimates 100 parking spots bring in about $1 million a year, with low operating costs.
