Drum roll.... The Argonaut reports the name of the new beach on the site of the Marion Davies Estate in Santa Monica: The Annenberg Community Beach Club at 415 PCH. A bit clunky-sounding, but then again, the Annenberg Foundation ponied up more than $21 million for the beach. All told, the city council cleared $28 million to renovate the estate into a public beach club (which almost didn't happen). Renovations will add valleyball courts, a beach playground, a children's water play area, a snack bar, an events room, meeting rooms, locker rooms, a lounge deck and parking. It should be open by 2008.
