CurbedWire: Mann National Now Really Not Historic

New, 28 comments

WESTWOOD - After the drama of almost being torn down, then being saved, the Mann National is once again going to get what's coming to it. That's right. The movie theater is getting a date with the wrecking ball. Via the inbox: "its not historic! after an exhaustive study, tours, and another hearing, the City's Cultural Heritage Commission denied Historic Monument status for the Mann National Theater (Nov 28th meeting), demolition on the not so historic theater should begin in January and the new LEED-certified glass box with parking on top structure (retail building) should be built shortly thereafter..." HOLLYWOOD - A reader climbed to the top of the Capitol Records Building and took the above picture of the cranes populating the Hollywood skyline. Lovely. It reminds us of Shanghai, but without all the people trying to sell us Mao watches. [CurbedWire Inbox]

LONG BEACH - Following in the footsteps of the "Hit the Road, Jack" themed Recall Jack Weiss web site, Long Beachers have created their own multi-media page for a local recall effort. The target of the Long Beach ire is Councilman Gary DeLong, who like Weiss, has been a little too pro-development in the face of typical Southern California traffic congestion. The themesong is kind of nice. [CurbedWire Inbox/District Weekly]
