Last Wednesday, the Santa Monica Planning Commission approved plans for this 19-room addition to the 123-room Best Western Hotel. The addition will be in the 19th Street alley; the main hotel is on the corner of 20th and Santa Monica. So as not to add traffic to the area, guests will check into the main hotel, and be ferried over to new part--which has a rooftop pool-- via golf cart or flex car. Similar to checking in to an island resort! Local architect Howard Laks is behind the project, which has a construction start date of fall 2008 and will be LEED certified with a silver rating. We're told local hospitals are particularly happy to have the new hotel addition--got to have a place for overnight visitors to bunk.
