HEMET- The Financial Times provides on-site correspondence from Hemet, where Tesco has officially launched their foray into America. Other UK papers are following suit by sending reporters to cover the opening of Fresh & Easy stores in California. Even those lovable scourges at Wal-Mart have taken a keen interest, reports FT.com: "The Hemet store has attracted intense interest from Tesco’s competitors including a group of five note-taking visitors from Wal-Mart, which operates a Supercenter with groceries less than two miles away."

GLASSELL PARK - A bevy of important people are invited to a party Wednesday evening to celebrate the opening of the first Fresh & Easy in Los Angeles, including the Mayor and the Governor. Sir Terry Leahy, Tesco’s chief executive, and members of Tesco’s board will also be in attendance. We're guessing the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) will also be in attendance to picket and get attention from the cameras. Fair warning if you use Eagle Rock Boulevard for your commute.
