HOLLYWOOD: We're still awaiting word on the sale of the Yamashiro/ Magic Castle property. Has anybody bought that thing yet? Maybe, maybe not, but that's not stopping the troops from rallying. Reports a local: "Any idea what is up with Magic Castle? There is an Outpost homeowners meeting tonight to discuss. Alas, I am not an Outpost homeowner...." We're betting somebody stood up and bitched about traffic. [CurbedWire Inbox]
WESTWOOD: All seemed to be going along swimmingly with the proposed teardown of the Mann National in Westwood. There was a lovely rendering, which most of you hated, and besides a few yard adjustments everything was by right. But then came the preservationists. Dun-dun-dun. Via email: "...[the] simms redevelopment was finally approved in September; you had a blurb on curbed when it was first proposed, but not so fast.... now theater lovers (well 3 of them) are trying to make it a monument, the city recommends against the proposal and will hear it on Thursday." STUDIO CITY: The NBC move from Burbank is also facing resistance from neighbors. The Studio City Sun reports that at a meeting of the SC Neighborhood Council on 10/17, members all but shook their fists with indignity at the thought of 3,200 employees and buildings taller than 20-stories occupying the site across from Universal. “This is absurd,” said board member Ron Taylor. “We need to know why they feel this kind of development is necessary." We imagine someone also bitched about traffic. [Studio City Sun]
