EaterTastings: Esquire's Best, Babycakes, and S Bar

The latest food dish from Eater, our sister nightlife/food blog:
1) All' Angelo (pictured above) made Esquire's 2007 Best New Restaurants in America list. But yikes, it's the only LA restaurant that made the cut. At least it beat out Mozza; writer John Mariani calls it "easily the best Italian restaurant to open in the city in a decade."

2) Babycakes was here, tempting Angelenos with the thought of sweet baked goods, and now it's gone. Signage was up on the corner of Beverly and Spaulding but has been replaced with a "for lease" sign. Any Curbed readers have any ideas about what happened?

3) Eater throws down the gauntlet and calls SBE's new S Bar "a bar she can really get behind." "Doors open every night at 8pm and we're told no table reservations, no list, no typical Hollywood 'club' crap. Just go as you are, grab a seat in one of the mismatched chairs or at the bar, order some crazy concoction and enjoy Philippe Starck's whimsical side."
