Seeing Double at Pico

Political blog Mayor Sam is reporting that last July rents nearly doubled at Pico Union Housing Corporation’s 50-unit apartment building in CD 14. How’d Pico double their money? Something about retro-active increases that allowed for rents to jump from about $450-$500 to $850-$900. Local tenants have tried to see if the increase can be “staggered and increased on a monthly basis, " while other community members are worried about a similar rent increase. Mayor Sam's blog blames Councilmember Jose Huizar for the whole mess. We have a call into Huizar's press secretary and will update as soon as we hear anything.
