Closings: One of our concerned friends emails us with news of Tia Chucha's closing in Sylmar. "As you may have heard by now, Tia Chucha's Cafe and Cultural Center has been asked to vacate its home of 5 years in Sylmar to make way for a laundromat. This past Saturday, over 50 concerned residents and supporters of Tia Chucha's convened at the cultural center for a Community Meeting to discuss the situation and plans for immediate relocation and fund raising efforts." We say fight the machine, man. Don't let the 45 minute dryers win! Revolt!

Adaptive Reuse: AT&T is the new Cingular. No wait, Cingular is the new AT&T. No, scratch that. AT&T is going condo. Via our inbox: "Just got a notice from the city that 611 West 6th Street in Downtown LA (the 42 story old At&t building) went to City Planning on January 10th to get approval for 402 (yes, you read that correctly) joint live/work condos on floors 16-42 and 135 commercial condo units on floors 1-15. Don't know any timeline or even the owner/developer of the building as yet, but will put quite a few more units on the market if it goes forward!"
