Today is the day many have been waiting a long time for. Finally, ground will be broken on the link between Downtown and Culver City the Westside, known formally as the Expo Line (or as Bernard Parks refers to it 'The non-resonating uncolored line serving Westsiders'). From CBS-2:
Construction will start on the Metro Express Line, a light rail system between downtown Los Angeles and Culver City, with an official groundbreaking ceremony Friday. The light rail line will travel 8.5 miles along Exposition Boulevard, which was used by the Pacific Electric's Santa Monica Air Line from 1914 to 1953. The ride should take 30 minutes to travel between downtown Los Angeles and Culver City.
The half-a-billion dollar Expo Line is hoped to one day connect to Santa Monica, but the first phase has a completion date set for 2010.
