Our third in a continuing series of our non-biased reviews of anti-development web sites which dot the Southern California internets. This week... Save Our Community/No Wal-Mart.
Like us, the people of Rosemead are opposed to the development of a Wal-Mart in their community. Also, like us they have a blog. The blog is the work of Save Our Community, a group that was intent at stopping Wal-Mart from setting up shop in their community. When that failed, they went after the politicians who backed the mega-retailer. Now they're the eyes and ears of the community, watching the construction of the Wal-Mart and keeping tabs on problems in their neighborhoods.
What is it About: The evil Wal-Mart empire has descended upon the quaint SG Valley town of Rosemead. People are crazy mad. But since the thing is being built and can't be stopped, they're looking at other important issues in their community like graffiti and the resulting chaos of the Wal-Mart construction.
Villains: Wal-Mart, Rosemead's City Council, Rosemead's Mayor, politicians
Buzzwords: Wal-Mart! Wal-Mart! Wal-Mart!
Last Update: Today.
Site Design: The site is presented in blog form which gets bonus points from us. While it lacks pictures, the blog posts are presented extremely well with a few sentences of text, then a link to continue reading the rest of the post on another page. The site also features a calendar section and a user forum that is actually used by readers. It's all very nicely done.
Our Judgement (on the scale of 1 to 5 NIMBYs, 5 being the best): 4.5 NIMBYs
