It's the building that keeps pooping out awards like a baby with diarrhea. CalTrans Headquarters' master starchitect Thom Mayne has been recognized with a Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Architecture - recognizing his "exceptional and exemplary work in commercial, public, or residential architecture design." CalTrans HQ is just a piece of his exceptional body of work, inlcuding some fanciful work for the 2012 New York Olympic Village (not happening), a home in Montecito and a building in Austria. Mayne is the only representative of Los Angeles recognized this year. Awards are given in 11 categories including Architecture, Interior and Landscape design, Product, Communication, Fashion and more.
