Casden Battling Neighbors of The Grove

The LA Times finally gives us some precious facts about the long-going battle between Casden Properties and neighbors near The Grove over a planned zone change to allow a 300-unit condo development. Neighbors are mad-as-hell that Casden appears to be ignoring a previous condition of approval to provide senior housing on the site of the "exploding Ross."

The Mid-City West Community Council, the local neighborhood council, has asked the city to deny Casden's application. In heated meetings in recent weeks, residents complained to Casden representatives and to Councilman Tom LaBonge's staff that altered zoning would reduce the amount of required open space, eliminate short-term parking at Ross for school employees and parents, and increase the height of the project.
The situation remains tense, with the Ross Dress-for-Less ready to explode once again in a fiery ball of NIMBYs, senior citizens, and greedy developers. Oh, the humanity! We'll keep track of this one.
