LA River: Apocalyptic Escape Route or Expensive Sewer?

Geoff Manaugh, of the great Bldg Blog, skips on over to Inhabitat this week to drop some knowledge on the LA River. Dismissing the rumor the concrete encasement was to serve as an escape route in case of a nuclear attack (note to Jerry Bruckheimer - are you listening? Maybe not a bad idea for a movie?) he instead looks at the financial and ecological consequences of trying to tame the world's waterways. And you have to love any essay that refers to the river as a "blank Corbusierian backdrop."
