Mayor Villaraigosa's plans for more affordable housing, more park space and extending our nascent subway system to the west side was dealt a blow this week when his proposal for a public works bond was defeated in Sacramento. But like the plucky hero of a 19th century novel, Villaraigosa may be down but not out. He will not capitulate to the Governator! Whle the bond proposal was defeated this week, he's hoping to put it back on the November ballot. While this likely postpones Villaraigosa's ambitious plans to reshape Los Angeles, the LA Times also warns us not to expect "further collaboration" between our Democratic mayor and Republican Governor. A rift in bipartisan cooperation that forestalls investment in infrastructure, housing and the environment? Say it isn't so!
