There’s about to be a big transit brawl: Eastside Gold Liners versus Westside Red Liners. As MTA planners contemplate another eastward extension of the Gold Line from Pasadena, Ontario wants to get into the game. The eastern terminus of the Gold Line has already been lured into San Bernardino County to Montclair. Now Ontario officials want to extend it even further to the Ontario Airport. But there’s only enough federal money for one project. Mayor Villaraigosa (who controls four MTA board seats) wants that money to fund the Red Line’s extension westward, but proponents of the Gold Line extension think they can win. Next is the physical challenge and open-handed boxing.
