Dwell on Design: Afternoon

The morning sessions of the Dwell on Design conference tended to focus on the history of modern architecture in context with Palm Springs, and other vacation destinations in the US. The modern styles were grounded in local climate, local materials, and the people and culture of the community. Several of the architects who spoke, including Michael Black, Bill Krisel, and Don Wexler recounted their history in Palm Springs in sometimes humourous, sometimes poignant accounts of the changing landscape and their roles in shaping the Palm Spring mid-mod mecca. The role of the car in shaping the design of buildings was a topic touched on several times. We took some video and we'll try to splice it together and post a little later.
