In the world of internet satellite maps, a pissing match has emerged. Google Earth started it off by offering the user unprecedented views of our beloved planet to a level of detail that allowed us to feel like we were spying on residents. Not to be outdone, Microsoft introduced Virtual Earth 3D yesterday. Not only does this tool give you satellite views from above, but it provides realistic(ish) 3D models of the built environment in 15 selected cities, including Los Angeles. Now, you can see the city from the view of all of those annoying helicopters. In typical Microsoft fashion, however, you must use icky Internet Explorer.
