L.A. is losing one of its defining symbols. Palm trees fill postcard images of L.A. and are practically synonymous with life in Southern California. But these iconic trees are dying, mostly from some nasty fungal disease, and the City Council doesn’t want to replace them. Instead, L.A. will replace the iconic trees with (gasp!) native species. Sycamores and oaks will eventually line your neighborhood streets, and fallen palm fronds will become something of the past. We’re just waiting until the first person sues the City for this move.
