For one realtor, the housing bubble has not yet burst. This latest act of market defiance concerns the most expensive house ever listed in Pasadena. In fact, at $52 million, this house is about four times more expensive than the last house to hold the title of Pasadena’s most expensive. For $52 million you will get a 35,000 square foot house on 4.7 acres located at 1288 S. Oakland Ave. with the following features:
A man-made lake and waterfall; topiary zoo; a ballroom, naturally; your own spa (with his and hers locker rooms); four master suites among a total of 15 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms; a guest house; a guard house; unfinished drywall; and a Corinthian column facade that could be mistaken for a Las Vegas hotel. You will also get screwed because the house needs a lot of renovation. You’d probably be better off just buying a hotel in Vegas. This house is a reconstructed version of the original 1913 house, which was severely damaged by fire in 1988. The then owners decided to raze the house and rebuild it in 1990. No one has lived on the property since 1987, but former owners include a child star and a mistress of Ferdinand Marcos. So if you’re in the market for something subtle, tasteful, and simple, this could be your new home!
