Market Madness Continues in H. Park

They're circling like vultures in Highland Park. A poster to the NortheatLA listserv reports that several supermarkets have entered into the fray to replace the soon-to-be-closed Albertsons.

Subject: Albertson's replacement The new owners are expressing several options for their new stores.
1 is a SuperValue store, whatever that is, 2 is a Bristol Farms store, and 3 is a Sunflower Organic store that competes with Whole Foods.

The decisions will be made on DEMOGRAPHICS so it seems an opportunity for the [Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council], [Mt. Washington Association], and others to explain to them our complex demographics and what we really need.

We have so many cut rate Big Saver, Foods4Less types of stores already, how about an upgrade?

In an unrelated note, we once attended a neighborhood council meeting (name withheld), where members complained about a lack of markets in their neighborhood too. One member spoke up and said that the Bristol Farms had closed years ago because poor people kept showing up and eating all of the free samples, and it put them out of business. We stifled our laughter.
