Irv's Burgers has dodged a bullet. The WEHO institution, kitty corner to City Hall on Santa Monica Blvd., was saved by a grassroots organization named the Burger Brigade from certain demolition. The developer wanted to knock down Irv's and put in a Peet's Coffee, but the Burger Brigade, working with city officials, made their opposition known, and forged ahead to have the burger stand designated as a local cultural monument. Peet's got cold feet and bailed on the project. No word if the Burger Brigade's arch nemesis, the Coffee Crowd, intends to retaliate.
