East Side Flocking: Extending the Gold Line

"If you build it, they will come." And then they will build more. Yes, developers have finally figured out (gasp!) that transit oriented developments do work in Los Angeles. Guess some heavy hitters have been pleased with the developments around the Red Line in Hollywood after the "fiasco" 10 years ago.

So now East L.A. with the extension of the Gold Line seems to be getting some developer hype. Maybe hype is the wrong word because developers are actually putting their money where their mouths are and purchasing land.

After a hold-up with federal funds (gasping again!), construction has begun. Los Angeles Business Journal reports that "Construction of the entire line is set to finish in mid-2009, about six months ahead of schedule." After all those gasps, we won't be holding our breath.
