USC Students Movin' On Up

After years of competing for affordable housing near the USC campus with actual residents, USC students are finally getting a new option to live near campus - and no expense has been spared to keep the BMW driving students happy. The Daily Trojan reports on the new developments springing up around the USC campus that are offering high-end accoutrements.

When Conquest Student Housing opens its newest building, Tuscany, in August, more than 500 students will have the opportunity to live in a facility with a health spa and state-of-the-art fitness center touting individual plasma TVs. As Professor of urban planning and demography Dowell Myers notes, the real benefit may come in the proximity of the new student housing to the campus itself. USC students spread out citywide and do not concentrate their housing demand solely around campus, he said. But a housing shortage in general is backing students up toward campus. "It's much preferable to have new housing develop around campus then have students travel long distances," Myers said. "More housing close to home here is a good thing."

In addition to the new housing going up around campus, USC is also anticipating the Summer completion of the Galen Center, the new home for the Trojan Men's and Women's basketball teams, as well as other athletic teams. Meanwhile, UCLA is anticipating a more competitve football game next year. Good luck Bruins.
