The feathered hair of L.A.'s toothy, photogenic real estate brokers is being ruffled. A story in today's L.A. Times spotlights CataList, a discount brokerage that charges a 3% commission instead of the standard 5% to 6%, yet provides the same level of service the big guys do--as opposed to the true cut-rate outfits whose marketing program consists of a single, hideous lawn sign. No word on whether the "full service" includes proofreading services for the often inscrutable real estate ads in the Times' Saturday supplement.
