Long Beach, hot cultural mecca that it is, deserves two, nay, possibly three posts on Curbed today. Maybe it's the alcohol talking, but that hamlet by the sea is starting to look mighty purrty.
October-Five Development (10/5-D as we like to call them) is in escrow to purchase the Press-Telegram building on Pine Avenue for $20 million with the intention to construct two residential towers, one 22 stories and the other 20 stories. The newspaper building's original facade would be preserved.
As proposed, condominiums at the Press-Telegram Lofts would be designed for middle-income, first-time buyers, [10/5-D partner Jim Brophy] said. The majority of the units will be in the 700-to 900-square-foot range. Units of 600 square feet to 700 square feet will likely sell from the high $200,000s and low $300,000s, while units up to 1,500 square feet would sell in the high $500,000s, Brophy said. A 1,500 s.f. condo near the beach... for only $500,000... in LA County? Goodness, we're getting woozy.
