Chinatown meets East LA

Blogger 5000! at blogging.la kindly introduces us to what is sure to be a neighborhood gorgefest of the first order: the 1st Annual Los Angeles International Tamale Festival. Let the heartburn begin.

"If you've ever wondered how tamales vary from one region to another (and they do), the festival will feature over one hundred tamale vendors, selling and representing various regions of Mexico and the countries of Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, and many others. The festival is Friday, Saturday and Sunday downtown, so you only have a few days to prepare your belly for the tamale eating contest." After Googlemapping the location, we here at Curbed LA were left with one question. Why is the tamale festival in Chinatown? Were Macarthur Park and East LA booked? Nevertheless, we're anticipating the exciting cultural juxtaposition: kung-pao nachos, anyone?
