End the Ugly in West Hollywood

Following on the heels of the Target/BevMo/Best Buy-centric Gateway Center, WeHo is looking to cash in on the trendy mixed-use centers sweeping the land. WeHo News reports that the City has put out a Request for Qualifications with an eye on redeveloping the super-ugly northeast corner of La Brea and Santa Monica (above).

Specific redevelopment objectives being asked for by the city include retail and commercial opportunities, pedestrian-oriented, transit-friendly environment, high density housing including market rate, middle income and affordable housing. It should be no surprise to developers that despite what WeHo may tell you, if your mixed-use project doesn't bring the pretty you might as well build in Pacoima.
