We've snagged the latest renderings of Little Tokyo's San Pedro Apartments, designed by Thomas P. Cox Architects and developed by Related Cos. (of recent Grand Avenue Project fame). As part of the larger Block 8 project -- the last remaining large parcel in Little Tokyo -- the 230-unit structure will eventually be joined by three other buildings and a vehicle-and-pedestrian retail promenade. Also included are construction photos, a rendering of the adjacent Matsu development by AvalonBay and a site plan.
Though Related's grand plans up on Bunker Hill may be stalled for another year, the developer is keeping its head down and nose clean: Construction is moving along briskly and is now above ground level. The development schedule calls for a spring 2009 completion.

Downtown development worries be damned: Construction continues on developer Related's San Pedro Apartments, a rental project at 2nd and San Pedro in Little Tokyo. These construction photos taken last weekend show the latest movement on the 230-unit project (the project will also have 7,000 square-feet of retail, according to blog Angelenic). Designed by Thomas P. Cox Architects (the firm behind the giant Wilshire/La Brea project), the project will reportedly be ready for you downtowners to move in about a year. [Renderings via Angenelic]

The Downtown News reports that ground has been broken at the Related Little Tokyo project site. We can attest to this as we snapped the above pic yesterday when we were downtown. The site has become a giant earthen mound. Via the Downtown News:
"This first phase, a six-story, 230-unit luxury apartment building on San Pedro Street, will be called the San Pedro Apartments, said Related's Rick Westberg. The complex will be designed by Thomas P. Cox Architects, which worked on Related's Hikari apartments two blocks away. Westberg said the project will feature a street-level promenade, two-way street and landscaped pedestrian pathways."
Other portions of the large lot are being developed by KOR and K. Hovnanian. More importantly, the jackals running the parking lot are now charging $7 to park in the remaining spaces. It used to cost $5 and went up to $6 late last year.
