While we've seen home abandonment and read about boat repos, here's a new one out of Marina del Rey: Boat abandonment. A bill passed the Assembly that would help boat owners more easily surrender their boats to state agencies, who would either destroy it or auction it, reports The Argonaut. There's apparently a problem of owners allowing their S.S. Whatevers to rot; some of the boats eventually sink, leaking oil and other yuck into the Pacific. The bill would also allow local agencies to apply for existing grants to dispose of surrendered vessels, and increase fines for boat owners with abandonment issues. [The Argonaut]

Listing Price: $695,000 Listing: This listing has been up for 40 days. No chops so far, but a pricechop may be lurking somewhere off shore. The handsome 1 bed, 1 bath condo is located in "the full service Azzurra." It's luxury living as only Marina del Rey can offer it. AZZURRA! (not to be confused with Azzura, which is an escort agency).
This week three Gray commenters were successful in guessing the listing price. Well, well, well. We must have quite a few braniacs in the Gray crowd... We honored you with a special bar graph today. The lot of you guessed an average of $103,692 below the asking price. Thank you, please play again.

While we've heard about the contentious 31-story Marina Del Rey Tower proposed for 4363 Lincoln Blvd (it's deemed too tall by locals), Marina Del Rey residents may also be interested in this smaller building proposed for their neighborhood. Meet The Princeton, a 48-unit, 16-story building--consisting of live/work loft condominiums--slated for the edge of Marina del Rey's Arts District. Designed by Santa Monica-based Howard Laks, the project is proposed by developer Prince Land properties (no working web site) for 1038-1040 Princeton Drive. Approval: Still waiting.

Once dubbed the Richard M. Nixon Freeway, the Marina Freeway is a fast road to nowhere. Literally. It is only 1.5 miles long, and few people, other than those living in the area, have actually driven on it. The County plans to change that. As part of an overall development strategy to increase gross receipt totals in Marina Del Rey (and raise more money for the County, ahem), the County plans to extend the Marina Freeway to Admiralty Way and to promote additional development in the area.
NIMBYism is already on the scene, and some local residents are pledging “war” against the County. Many residents don’t want the increased development, and they certainly don’t want a freeway to make Marina Del Rey easily accessible to even more cars. Of course, these residents do not want to do anything themselves that would lessen congestion. In our experience, we thought everyone in Marina Del Rey was too old to drive, but we may be wrong about that.
Anyway, County officials say that this project could ease congestion and have, in essence, told residents, “Tough sh**.” Community planning is a beautiful thing.
