This weekend's Open House tour begins and ends at 3584 Multiview Drive. We drool over a lot of hot properties, but the spittle was especially flying over this one. A Bob's Big boy statue! Seriously! The remodeled Buff, Straub and Hensman post and beam "masterpiece" is holding its Open House on Sunday 8/17 between 2 and 5pm. Retail Price: 2.395 million.

The results of Tuesday's poll are in. With 415 votes cast, approximately 48 percent of you thought that the remodeled Rodney Walker Case Study House at 7861 Woodrow Wilson Drive was Rather Lovely. Only 15.2 percent of you voted it Hideous. Thank you for your two-cents. [Curbed Poll]
Taking a page from our sister site Racked LA, we're asking you to look at this home and vote on whether you like or dislike it—your choices are 'That's Rather Lovely!,' 'So close,' 'I feel strangely ambivalent about it,' or 'That's Rather Hideous!'
This home on Woodrow Wilson in the Hollywood Hills is currently on the market for $2.6 million. A reader emails us due to the historical nature of the home, and the intriguing remodeling job performed. "So, here's a question that could be submitted to the peanut gallery: This house is a pretty, basic, modern spot but... It used a be a Rodney Walker Case Study House. At what point does this remodel become cruel and unusual?" Or more directly, we ask, is it lovely or hideous...
Penn Badgley of the CW's Gossip Girl, the show about pretty New York people with problems, was photographed at Pierre Koenig's Case Study House No. 22 (aka the Stahl House). Badgley, along with Ron Livingston and Mekhi Phifer were photographed in the historic Hollywood Hills home for GQ's current issue. Badgley appears sullen in a large chair while a wall of the home stands stark white and subtly pensive, behind him.

We really, really want to live here. Yup, it's a jewel box of a post & beam in the Oaks, off of Bronson Canyon, which means you could actually WALK to Gelson's, The Bourgeois Pig, and catch Patton Oswalt at UCB Theater. If anyone actually walked in Bronson Canyon. This 1957 2-bedroom, 2-bath house features "living area and decks [with] head on views of the evening lights over Hollywood and beyond. The home sits on a large lot offering expansion opportunities." But please don't. It's perfect just as it is. And (relatively) affordable. Its last sale price in 2004 was $715,000. Today's asking price: $799,000. That's a drastic change from the list price printed in the Spring 2007 Beachwood Voice, asking for $989,000. Glad to see the owner has put down the crack pipe.

What's that saying about people who live in glass houses? Oh right, they shouldn't, unless they want to the world to be all up in their bizness. One owner seems to have found that out a bit late. The listing for this 4-bedroom, 5-bath house near Sunset Plaza claims it was appraised at $4 million just six months ago. Today's asking price from a "very motivated seller" is $2.25 million.
This newly listed house is in one our favorite bobo canyons (other bobo canyons=Nichols and Beachwood). Sure, some may say it's just a white box, but we see a blank canvas and tons of potential. Built in 1963, the two-bedroom, one-bath house features "urban, loft-like interior space in the living room, dining room, and open kitchen through glass blocks and a massive central window. A skylight and second central window filter light into the master bedroom, while the second bedroom/ office offers direct access to a tranquil outdoor patio." Cost to live near the ghosts of Jim Morrison and the Wonderland Gang: $699,000.

New to the neighborhood (and Redfin) is this custom built beauty. Custom built for whom, we're not sure. A hip hop mogul? A paranoid Scientologist? A Persian prince? It takes a lot of work to make something so expensive look so cheap. Just ask Donatella Versace. This "French Norman styles" in the Hollywood Hill features "professionally equipped Home theater with high end speakers, projector, PANIC ROOM (Wine cellar), surround sound system throughout and many other upgraded features." So when the end of the world is finally nigh, at least you'll have your hooch with you. Listing price: $3.45 million. · 6446 Weidlake Dr Hollywood Hills, CA 90068 [Redfin]
The LA Times takes a look at the completed restoration of architect John Lautner's Harpel House, located off Mulholland Drive (and in the "figurative" shadow of Lautner's Chemosphere house). Owner Mark Haddawy had his work cut out for him - the previous owners had "installed stucco walls, track lighting and aluminum window frames." Haddawy, who owns vintage clothing shop Resurrection, has made a habit of buying midcentury mod and restoring the homes. His last project was architect Pierre Koenig's 1958 Case Study House No. 21, which sold at auction for about $3.2 million, a figure which included all the furnishings and a '58 Porsche. Construction of the Taj Mahal took 22 years to complete. The Garagemahal, a monolithic concrete construction just above Sunset on Doheny, is stretching into its second year. Seriously, what the hell is taking so long? It's a two-story structure. The last we had heard, the Garagemahal may not actually be a garage as previously rumored, but in fact may just be somebody's ugly ass house add-on. Please remind us to swing by again at the end of the summer. We hope they'll have added windows by then.

That's Rather Lovely, the nice twin of That's Rather Hideous, highlights clever decisions in interior design or architecture as revealed in photos or listings. Have a nominee? Say hello.
With the weather warmer than average, the smog less than usual, and award season finally over, this future Entourage set above Runyon Canyon would be icing on the LA cake. Expensive damn icing. But tasty. From the three-bedroom, 4,100 sq ft, $4.5 million house's web site: "Modern home with soaring mountain, city and ocean views. Located at the end of a quiet, hilltop cul-de-sac." The master suite takes up a full floor, and the "gated estate" features "state-of-the-art audio, visual and security systems, chef's kitchen, pool/spa" and "disappearing walls of glass." What also disappears: an estimated monthly payment of $21,583.82.
Behold, the release for this morning's press conference about the $22 million Hollywood land for sale. Marvel at how a big chunk of land and its owners are treated like celebrities. Via the release: "Limited one-on-one interviews with owners immediately following press conference are available upon request."
Earlier this week, news broke that actor Orlando Bloom had done something extraordinary: Painted the exterior of his Hollywood Hills home, a ranch house with a blue tile roof, black. Oh, the horror! But did anyone have photos of the home? Not till now. Sorta digging it, actually.
LA is getting its first weeHouse: St. Paul, Minnesota-based firm Alchemy Architects, which trademarked the prefab modular structure, has designed a three-unit weeHouse (yes, that's how it's spelled) development for Valevista Trail. A family is planning to build the development, which is currently in the permit phase, and sell the homes, Betsy Gabler, Alchemy's head of marketing and business development tells us. FYI for those wishing for a wee home of their own, it costs about $140-$190 a square foot to build a weeHouse.
