Downtown Los Angeles's newer residents have been dying for a Whole Foods ever since the neighborhood's gentrification began well over a decade ago. Today they finally got their wish, and the new Whole Foods at Eighth and Grand, on the ground floor of a forthcoming luxury apartment building, lives up to every yuppie expectation. It's 41,000 square feet with a 220-seat restaurant and bar called Eight Bar with a seasonal menu, craft beer and kombucha on tap, the chain's first in-store pizza oven, two smokehouses, self-ordering kiosks where you can order prepared food for pickup after you shop, and rice bowls from beloved chef Roy Choi's Chego. The LA Times adds that there are more than 350 handcut cheeses, a huge beer and wine selection, and bike delivery within three miles. To keep it real, the store will also serve LA's specialty, bacon-wrapped hot dogs. There is also a Vinyl Lounge, for hanging out and listening to records. In a Whole Foods. Have a ball, DTLA.
