Last Saturday, Los Angeles put together a little going-away party for the Sixth Street Bridge. Music, food, a car show, and what looks like a pretty fantastic fireworks display were all part of the fun, and the crowds came out in full force to bid the bridge farewell. The Sixth Street Viaduct Replacement Project is already underway; it will take out the 1932 structure, which is seismically unsafe thanks to "concrete cancer," and replace it with a swoopy new "icon." The picturesque old bridge will close on January 3, with demolition expected to begin January 8, says the City News Service. The replacement bridge is set to be complete in 2019.
