LADOT finally managed to get some of the Spring Street bike lane operational again for this past weekend's CicLAvia--they had water-blasted the last of the controversial old paint off back on September 15, which Streetsblog complained "left it a shambles." Bikers were quite pleased back in late 2011 when the six-foot-wide lane was first painted in an eye-catchingly bright green, but soon the film industry started grumbling, arguing that the shade was particularly difficult to take out in post-production and was ruining filming Downtown. After ages of back and forth, the city finally agreed to remove 80 to 90 percent of the paint on the one-and-a-half-mile bike lane and to switch out whatever bright green was left for more of a forest. Here's the latest look.
