You don't often see "homeless" and "luxury" in the same sentence, but here you go: affordable housing developer Thomas Safran and Associates partnered with the city of LA to build Del Rey Square, a 124-unit complex that "offers luxury, affordable housing for low-income and homeless seniors" in Del Rey. The studios and one-bedroom apartments, each with a full kitchen, will rent for approximately 30 percent of the tenant's income, and community features include a gym, jacuzzi, library, and educational workshops. The four-story building will officially open tomorrow at a ceremony with City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, who calls the project "truly a win for the entire community." 31 formerly homeless seniors--two of them veterans--have already moved in to units furnished by TSA as needed. Del Rey Square replaces a vacant lot at Culver and Inglewood Boulevards.
