Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #778, aka Highland Park's Murdock House, was designed in 1903 by German-born architect George Voelkel. According to building historian Charles Fisher, the 109 year old house is unusual in that it was built on a Four Square plan, but with a Mission Revival design placed over that plan. Located just down the block from the historic Lummis House, on North Figueroa at Avenue 43, the 2,346 square foot residence features four bedrooms, three baths, hardwood floors, crown molding, a wood-burning fireplace, "newer plumbing and electrical, and new heating and cooling system." Last sold in 2003 for $235,000, the Mills Act-protected property is now asking $449,500.
