The city is motoring on plans to completely redevelop the infamous Jordan Downs housing complex in Watts--yesterday it picked developers (New Jersey's Michaels Organization and San Francisco's Bridge Housing) and they say construction could start as soon as next year. The project will knock down the existing complex and replace it with an "urban village" of up to 1,800 residences (with units reserved for existing tenants), retail, and a 6.38 acre "central park." Funding, of course, is still up in the air. [LAT]
