AEG President Tim Leiweke has finally named names of NFL teams he says the company is actively courting to come to Los Angeles to play at the developer's planned Farmers Field: "St. Louis, Jacksonville, not extensively, certainly Oakland, San Diego, Minnesota are still in the mix." It's the usual suspects, but, as the OC Register reports, AEG is finally confirming that it wants to purchase a majority stake in a team and will pay to get one out of its current lease if necessary. (Leiweke also said he spoke with a team "a week ago," which duh.) Meanwhile, over at City Hall, the Planning Commission has set up a subcommittee just to deal with the Farmers Field project--it includes both the 70,000 seat stadium and a new West Hall for the Convention Center.
The Daily News says that the four member panel "will be tasked with looking at how the various stages and elements of the project will be approved," and points out that the stadium already has a city Ad Hoc Committee, two dedicated members of the planning department (although they also work on other big projects), and Department of Transportation and City Attorney's office resources dedicated to it (not to mention the mayor's new media interns working on luring the NFL). Leiweke said AEG hopes to have an environmental impact report ready by May 31, 2012.
