Lovely as it is, Santa Monica's bike beach path can get crowded, particularly when pedestrians and other groups wander into the lane. Santa Monica's Parks and Recreation Commissioner Phil Brock hopes to make the bikeway safer (unsubstantiated evidence shows it may be the most dangerous in the area) with more multi-lingual signs that direct people to steer clear, reports the Santa Monica Daily Press. Problem is, the bike path is out of the city's jurisdiction because it's state-owned and county-patrolled, but Brock believes he can get state-approved signs by the summer. After that's done, enforcement is the next issue. [SMDP]
